The review unravels the current view of the role of a single nucleotide polymorphism of the interleukin-28B (IL-28B) gene in different aspects of hepatitis C virus infection. Major attention is paid to the discussion of the value of the allelic variants of IL-28B during standard double and current triple antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C. Furthermore, the paper covers the biological role of interferon-λ, a product of IL-28A, B, and IL-29 gene expression, other associations of the allelic variants of the IL-28B gene with different clinical signs, as well as the possibilities of practical use of this genetic marker in chronic hepatitis C today and futures prospects.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Аннотация. Кроме того, освещаются биологическая роль интерферона-λ - продукта экспрессии генов ИЛ-28А, В и ИЛ-29, другие ассоциации аллельных вариантов гена ИЛ-28В с различными клиническими признаками, возможности практического применения данного генетического маркера при хроническом гепатите С в настоящее время и перспективы на будущее.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>chronic hepatitis C</kwd><kwd>interleukin-28B</kwd><kwd>antiviral therapy</kwd><kwd>telaprevir</kwd><kwd>boceprevir</kwd><kwd>prognostic markers</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>хронический гепатит С</kwd><kwd>интерлейкин-28В</kwd><kwd>противовирусная терапия</kwd><kwd>телапревир</kwd><kwd>боцепревир</kwd><kwd>прогностические маркеры</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Sheppard C.W., Finelli L., Alter M.J.
